Abstract

Mandibular condylar fractures account for 19 to52 % of fractures of facial skeleton. There are two different types of treatment modalities for condylar fractures, one is open method [surgical] and closed method [non-surgical].both treatment methods have their own complications, like in case of closed method of treatment complications pain, trismus and occlusal disturbances. Facial asymmetry, in case of open method, the complications include facial scar, facial nerve injury. Till date there is lot of debate about which method of treatment is most suitable for treating mandibular condylar fractures. This systematic review revealed that high quality evidence is lagging for the effectiveness of   both the treatment methods of condylar fractures. This review also stressed the need for further research to help both patients and doctors in deciding about the treatment options.
